I created this book as an Iranian-Canadian poet who deeply values the richness of cultural traditions and the stories they carry through time. Growing up surrounded by the vibrant symbols and mythology of Iranian culture, I found immense beauty in the rituals that have been passed down for thousands of years—rituals that connect us not only to our roots but also to the shared rhythms of nature and the cycles of life that unite us all. This book is a celebration of Norooz, the Persian New Year, and the meaningful symbols that make up the Haft-Seen table—all drawn from nature. It is an invitation for children and families—whether they have grown up with Norooz or are discovering it for the first time—to explore the traditions, values, and timeless wisdom that this ancient celebration holds. In a world where many Iranians move to new countries, blending cultures and creating new homes, I believe it’s essential to foster cross-cultural connections. Sharing stories like these allows us to understand and appreciate one another more deeply. At the same time, this book honors the thread of continuity that links us to the past, reminding us that even as we adapt and change, the traditions that shape us continue to guide and ground us. Through this story, I hope to spark curiosity, bridge cultures, and celebrate the beauty of Norooz—a tradition that not only carries the light of renewal, hope, and connection across generations and borders but also celebrates nature’s cycles of rebirth and the enduring bond between people and the Earth.
