The Woman Life Freedom Quilt Project:
Weaving Women's Rights into Art

Quilting has a long history of activism, with powerful social justice quilts such as the AIDS Memorial Quilt, the Migrant Quilt Project, and the Black Lives Matter Quilt, extending back to the suffrage movement. In 2022, Iranian Women in Network (IWIN) launched the Woman, Life, Freedom Quilt Project, a global initiative advocating for women's rights and gender equality. With over 600 contributions, this project amplifies the voices of women around the world, standing as a testament to the idea that women's rights are human rights on a global scale.

The Woman Life Freedom Quilt Project envisions a world where no Afghan girl is denied education, no American woman is stripped of bodily autonomy, and no woman has to fight for equal pay. It dreams of an Iran where girls freely choose what they wear, sing, and exercise their basic human rights. Ultimately, the project aspires to a world where all women, everywhere, can live with dignity, freedom, and equality, standing as a collective symbol of global solidarity for women's rights.
